Symetra Names Curt Olson VP, Head of Relationship Management for Registered Investments

BELLEVUE, Wash. — Symetra Life Insurance Company today announced the appointment of Curt Olson as vice president and head of Relationship Management for Registered Investments.

In this new role, Olson will build and manage the distributor network for Symetra’s planned variable annuity (VA) offering. His responsibilities include negotiating selling agreements, developing joint business objectives and providing day-to-day management for key distributor accounts. He reports to Kevin Knull, senior vice president of Registered Investments at Symetra.

Olson most recently served as senior vice president and national relationship manager at Sun Life Financial Distributors, Inc., where he led a team responsible for VA sales across multiple channels. He previously held sales and product management positions at MFS Investment Management, Dain Rauscher Incorporated and Kemper Financial Services.

“Curt has a deep understanding of the VA marketplace and the distributors we’re targeting for Symetra’s planned low-cost variable annuity product — specifically registered investment advisors (RIAs) and broker-dealers,” said Knull. “We’re very pleased to welcome Curt to our growing team.”

Olson is a graduate of the University of Illinois, Champaign/Urbana and the Executive Training Program at Harvard Business School. He holds Series 6, 7, 26 and 63 licenses. He will be based in Symetra’s new office in Waltham, Mass., near Boston.

Reporter Gianni Truzzi writes, "We identified companies in our state that seem positioned to break out and eventually become tomorrow’s titans. Old-fashioned fundamentals guided our choices. We selected mid-cap companies with valuations around $2 billion. These firms have been around awhile … and have demonstrated strong, stable management that can adjust to change. In addition, each appears strongly positioned to benefit from shifting currents in its sector …. Collectively, they show what it takes to succeed.” Read the cover story and the Symetra profile.
