Symetra believes in working closely with our partners to build strong communities, both within the Pacific Northwest and across the county. The company’s civic involvement takes many forms and spans a wide array of projects—from helping disadvantaged children, to supporting a thriving arts culture, to honoring the region’s public school teachers. Its charitable and community participation strategy is one of corporate social responsibility, integrated into the business practices of the company.
Financial support is one way Symetra does its part, but at the heart of all the community-building activities is an enthusiastic employee engagement. Symetra encourages employees to participate as involved partners.
In 2007, Symetra’s community contributions included:
"I can’t believe people who don’t know us would care enough to send such cool stuff. The packages could not have arrived at a better time — you wouldn’t believe what it did for the morale of my unit."
— A soldier in Iraq who received "A Little Bit of Home" care package
"It’s wonderful to see companies like Symetra going into our schools and giving teachers the recognition they deserve. There are thousands of teachers across the district who are doing critical work every day to help kids succeed. They truly are the unsung heroes of our community, and to have a program that lets their kids see just how important their teacher is — it is really special."
— Cheryl Chow, Seattle School Board President
