Our three pillars of impact
People matter
Empowering individuals and communities through education, equity, grants and community engagement. Our aligned goals are:
STEAM and team programs
We inspire youth through science, technology, engineering, art, math and active play. Our goal: reach 4,000 kids annually by the end of 2027.
Employee engagement
Symetra supports volunteerism to strengthen our communities. We aim for 45% employee volunteering participation by the end of 2027.
Grants and scholarships
Through Symetra Empowers Communities programming, we provide grants to nonprofit partners working to ensure more people can thrive in the changing world we live in.
Financial literacy
We're expanding access to financial education in underserved communities. By the end of 2027, we’ll fund 2,300 learning activities to help more people achieve financial freedom.
Financial literacy program
In support of Symetra’s vision to create a world where more people have access to financial freedom, Symetra has partnered with the national nonprofit Operation Hope to bring financial literacy services to underserved adults to help individuals improve financial outcomes.
Services
We're bringing Operation Hope’s free community financial literacy workshops, coaching and referral services to empower those in our community to achieve their financial goals. Focused in Hartford, Connecticut, the partnership launched in January 2025.
Impact
Data shows that individuals receiving services are making progress to reach individual financial goals including reducing debt, increasing savings, increasing credit scores and becoming financially confident.
Connect
The program is available to all, but we’ve connected Operation Hope with nonprofits partnered with Symetra Empowers Communities that are working to reduce barriers for historically underserved low-income adults.
For workshops and coaching opportunities, please visit Operation Hope’s website.
Our planet matters

- Electrical emissions reduction: We’re working to reduce our carbon footprint as part of our effort to help create a better world for everyone. We aim to cut carbon emissions from our electrical usage by 20% by the end of 2027, as compared to 2024 usage.
Commitment matters
Guided by transparency, values, and purpose-driven governance.
