BELLEVUE, Wash. — Symetra Life Insurance Company today announced the appointment of Jon Stenberg as executive vice president of its Individual Life Division.
In his new role, Stenberg will have responsibility for Symetra’s fastest-growing division, which recently launched its first indexed universal life insurance product. Stenberg will be based in the company’s Individual Life headquarters in Waltham, Massachusetts, and reports to Dan Guilbert, head of Symetra’s Individual Life and Retirement Divisions.
Stenberg joins Symetra from RiverSource Life Insurance Company, Ameriprise Financial in Minneapolis, where he served as executive vice president and general manager, Insurance — leading strategy, product development and management, sales and marketing, service and operations for the full line of RiverSource insurance products. He joined Ameriprise Financial, Inc. in January 2011 with more than 20 years of experience in the insurance and financial services industry. Prior to Ameriprise, Stenberg was senior vice president and head of retail insurance at New York Life Insurance Company, and he has held leadership roles at UBS and Lincoln Financial Group.
“Symetra has rapidly emerged as a core player in the individual life insurance space, and we see plenty of opportunity ahead. Jon’s extensive industry experience, strategic thinking and ability to create points of differentiation in the marketplace make him the perfect leader to help accelerate our Individual Life division’s momentum as we pursue our long-term strategic goals. We’re thrilled to have him join the Symetra team,” said Dan Guilbert.
Stenberg earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Central Michigan University, and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Life Committee of The American Council of Life Insurers and serves on the boards of the American College and LIMRA LOMA Secure Retirement Institute. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army.
