Sally Jewell Appointed to Symetra Financial Board of Directors

BELLEVUE, Wash. — Symetra Financial Corporation today announced the appointment of former U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell to its board of directors.
“We are extremely pleased to welcome a leader of Sally’s caliber to our board of directors,” said Tom Marra, executive chairman, Symetra Financial. “Sally’s extensive business and financial background, and history of public service, will be important assets as we continue Symetra’s evolution as a leading player in the life insurance industry.”
Ms. Jewell served under President Barack Obama as the 51st secretary of the interior from 2013 to 2017. She was previously president and CEO of Recreational Equipment, Inc. “Symetra has clearly established itself as a rising force in the life insurance industry with a seasoned and ambitious leadership team,” said Jewell. “I admire the company’s customer-centric commitment to its Value, Transparency and Sustainability (VTS) guiding principles, which align with my own personal business values. We also share deep roots in the Puget Sound region. I see tremendous opportunity ahead for Symetra and look forward to being a part of it.”
Ms. Jewell received a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of Washington. She has served on the boards of numerous corporate, nonprofit and civic organizations, including REI, Premera Blue Cross and the University of Washington.
