Employee engagement

Our employees are engaged and strongly committed to giving back to our communities. We empower them to be generous with both their time and resources to foster inclusive, healthy places in which to live and work.

BOLD Program (Board Orientation Leadership Development)

Our BOLD (Board Orientation Leadership Development) program encourages employees to provide leadership and support to organizations in their communities by offering nonprofit leadership training and then matching program participants to nonprofit boards that align with their talents and interests. Nationally, employees currently serve on 39 nonprofit boards, with 12 new board members taking up new roles in the last year.

Winners receive a cash award and a $1,000 donation to their nonprofit of choice. In 2022, Addie Hume was recognized as our Symetra Empowers Communities honoree for her role on the Symetra Service Squad, where she coordinates community service projects for our Enfield, Connecticut office, and has committed more than 370 hours of volunteer service for the Children's Museum of Holyoke since 2016.
